Regional Attractions

A wonderful aspect of Roussillon is the despite being attractive, it lacks the feeling of a touristy region, it is very un-spoilt, yet offers a wealth of things to see and do.

  • Stunning Cathar castles to explore, notably Peyreperteuse, Queribus and Puilarens
  • A fascinating museum at Tautavel dedicated to pre-historic man
  • Fine examples of roman architecture such as the aqueduct at Ansignan.
  • Thermal baths at Rennes le Bains where you can bathe all year round.
  • The abbey at Serrabonne
  • Perpignan, the very Spanish capital of the region
  • Carcassone beautiful medieval walled city

The views from Querbus Castle over the Maury valley to the Pyrenean Peaks are amongst the finest in the region. Excellent personal audio available.

We were delighted to discover this working aqueduct. Claimed to be of Roman construction, this long, low, multi-arched aqueduct carries water across the valley of the Agly to irrigate vineyards and gardens.

    DIRECTIONS

Take the D9 from Narbonne to Maury then on D 19 to Ansignan

    Quillan to Limoux Gorge Route

An interesting drive following the river to Limoux. You can return via Querbus and the Gorges de Alamos.

    DIRECTIONS

Take the D117 from Perpignan to Quillan then on D 118 to Limoux

    Collioure

Without doubt one of the most attractive seaside towns on the Mediterranean. Famous for its anchovies and topless bathing!

    DIRECTIONS

Take the coast road from Perpigan to Collioure. Return via the autoroute

    France/Spain coast border

Further down the coast from Collioure you come to the border. The road winds over ridges and round bays with incredible views over the Mediterranean. Vineyards with tasting can be found on the way plus you get to eat and drink in some fascinating fishing village cafes.

    DIRECTIONS

Take the coast road from Perpigan to Collioure then then to Figueres. Return via the autoroute
